Program Description:

The core month-long program is centered in Madrid, Spain's cosmopolitan capital-- a city of rich cultural, artistic and architectural heritage. It consists of a full-range of curricular options for the student of Spanish language, culture, literature and film. Students may select courses from every level, something not typically available through on-campus summer offerings. There are two study plans: a four week program, based in either Madrid or Salamanca; and a six week program, based in Torremolinos, Málaga for the first two weeks, followed by the four week program either in Madrid or Salamanca. The Costa del Sol is a world renowned stretch of Spanish coastline. Historic Malaga, in Andalucia, is the gateway to the Costa del Sol. Courses in Spanish language are available in Madrid from Beginning II to Advanced Hispanic Literature. Courses are offered at the undergraduate and graduate level. Content courses also include History of Spain (in Spanish) and (in English) Spanish Art, Culture, Film, Music, Traditions and Folklore of Spain, and American Writers of Spain. The teaching staff in Madrid is made up almost entirely of professors from accredited American colleges and universities. A variety of optional features in Madrid include: arts, concerts, and a package of museum visits and day-out excursions as well as an extended excursion to Barcelona or Lisbon, Portugal. Spanish language courses taught by local Spanish educators in Salamanca or Torremolinos-Malaga start at Beginning Level I and include a variety of language courses and topics such as Hispanic literature and history. The Salamanca and Torremolinos locations also feature optional day-out and longer excursions to other locations in Spain.

Setting Description:

4-Week Program (Madrid/Paris) The main study portion of this program takes place in Madrid. It is the place where our journey begins. Madrid is the political, legal, and economic center of the country, as well as one of the leading capitals in Europe. The city, with its many leisure activities, museums, and monuments, provides a great setting from which to learn the language and culture of Spain. Our last stop takes us to Paris where you can relax, enjoy and experience a different culture. Paris is a city of world importance and the historic, intellectual, educational, and artistic center of France. This city serves as the perfect place in which to end our cultural journey. 6-Week Program (Malaga/Madrid/Paris) The program's location at Malaga's Costa del Sol provides the opportunity to explore Andalucia and learn about one of Spain's most picturesque areas.
