Setting Description:
What makes Buenos Aires unique? Buenos Aires’ riverfront Ecological Reserve isn’t just a hikeable, bikeable escape from urban density—it’s also a testament to nature’s resilience. Just thirty years ago, the area that now forms the Reserve was a pile of rubble, dumped into the river as part of the last military dictatorship’s plan for a new industrial zone. When the regime ran out of money and abandoned the area, nature quickly took over, turning mounds of broken brick and twisted metal into a lush Pampas grassland. Today, the Reserve is larger than New York’s Central Park and home to dozens of exotic bird, reptile, and plant species. But traces of the past remain. Head to where the Reserve meets the river and you’ll find a beach made of rubble, not sand—a reminder of the park’s unconventional history!
