Program Overview

Program Description:
Utatlan offers part time teaching opportunities for enthusiastic and responsible people who can commit to three months or more. Teachers can do a direct exchange of their English teaching hours for Spanish classes with one of our professional tutors from our sister Spanish school. Alternatively teachers can get paid for their hours at a Guatemalan salary rate.

The classes are one-on-one personalized tutoring sessions and the emphasis is on conversation, but also with a mixture of other skills such as grammar, listening, reading and writing. Students normally study 3 to 5 hours a week with their teacher, but this can vary. Teachers will be assigned several different students depending on their availability. Experience of teaching English is preferable but not always necessary and all teaching materials are provided by the school. Most teachers use this as an opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience working in a nice environment, while also increasing their Spanish skills.

Setting Description:
Utatlan Language School is a small school based in the historial center of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala's second largest town. The town is not exceptionally touristy like some other locations but has a good amount of foreign visitors, normally studying Spanish or volunteering. Quetzaltenango is the perfect base from which to travel all over this beautiful country.
