Program Overview

Program Description:

Study Mandarin in Beijing while taking part in our volunteer program. Mandarin classes are held at Beijing Language and Culture University. Volunteering takes place each Wednesday in a local orphanage and you also have the opportunity to travel to rural China one a month with Tsinghua University to take part in a more immersive volunteering experience. Students have the opportunity to meet people from every corner of the world and every type of background with this program. The language program will be taken with other international students allowing you to make new friends. The volunteering program will allow you to meet a diverse group of Chinese people - 1. students studying in China's top university, Tsinghua; 2. orphans living in Beijing; 3. People living in rural China and dealing with underdeveloped environments. Experience the Chinese culture, way of life and language through this unique program.

This unique program gives students an opportunity to learn the Chinese language in the heart of the Capital city. You will be completely immersed in the culture and have a better understanding of the way of life through living it. Volunteering in different environments will give you exposure to various different cities in China and their people. Learn about how the people, of 56 different ethnic minorities, live, work and spend each day in their unique environments.

Setting Description:

Language Program: Students will have the option to live in dorms, apartments or homestays during their language program. These options can be tailored to each student. Food is included in the homestay option. All accommodation is located within a short distance to BLCU making commuting easy and stress free. Volunteer Program: Day trips to the local orphanage will last approx 4 hours giving students plenty of time to meet the children and really get to know them. Weekend trips with Tsinghua University will involve travel (sometimes on overnight trains) to different rural locations. Accommodation during these weekends will range from shared dorms to private hotel rooms.

Cost:

The basic Study and Volunteer Package costs USD$3,755 for one semester. This includes volunteering experiences, donations, and language program at BLCU. Additional services can be added such as accommodation, private tutoring, activities and travel and insurance.
