The PIER Helmholtz Graduate School ensures that doctoral candidates receive an internationally recognized and optimally supervised education in the PIER reserach fields. We offer our doctoral candidates a wide range of internationally focused support activities and attractive services. These offers include financing possibilities for conducting research abroad and discussions in small groups with renowned scientists from all over the world. Thanks to their roster of scientists from more than 40 countries, DESY and Universität Hamburg are extremely international.

Setting Description:
Academic training provided by international experts. Access to unique technologies such as the free-electron laser FLASH and FLASH II, and the superlative X-ray laser source XFEL. PhD within three years with regular feedback from your scientific advisory team. Acquisition of key competences for your career in science, business or industry. Leisure activities and language courses. Language of instruction: English Requirements: Master’s degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, medicine or related fields.
Cost:
The tuition fees at Universität Hamburg are fully covered by the German government, only an administrative fee of € 290 will have to be paid per semester (6 months). This fee includes a public transport ticket for Hamburg. The salary for research assistants is approximately 1800 € (pre-tax, this corresponds to 50% TVL 13, the collective wage agreement).
