Program Description:

Designed for everyone interested in learning more about Web 2.0 applications, this program offers two classes that are appropriate for graduate students studying for their degree in library and information studies and interested students from other graduate majors. Coursework examines theory, concepts and techniques, while using London as the subject matter on which practical projects are based. Particular emphasis is given to settings from children’s books. Students plan, design and create websites, podcasts, short films, digital photographs, personalized books, and other multi-media presentations. Excursions to other parts of the United Kingdom and a day in Paris are included. Note: A portion of this program will be taught online pre-departure, upon return, or a combination of both.

London is your classroom as you gather digital content for projects that can be incorporated in your library or classroom. You will visit many of the top London attractions such as the Tower of London, London Eye, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park, The British Library, The British Museum, The National Gallery, Tfalgar Square Buckingham Palace, and more. You will see a play at the Globe Theatre and on the London's West End. On a Friday you will take the Eurostar to Paris where you will visit the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, cruise the Seine and have a gourmet dinner in a Paris restaurant. You can return the same day to London or stay for the weekend on your own in Paris.

This program is a wonderful opportunity to earn 6 graduate credits while studying abroad for three weeks. If you missed the opportunity to take part in an international program as an undergraduate, here is your chance as a graduate student. You will learn many new skills that you can apply to your current or future position as a tech savvy librarian.

Setting Description:

Students are housed in the Florida State University London Study Centre at 99 Great Russell Street, only a block from the British Museum. It is set in the lovely section of Bloomsbury and within walking distance to Covent Garden and the theatres of London's West End. Students are housed in flats that are completely furnished with bedrooms, bath, kitchen, and living area.
