Program Description:

The Oxford Summer Study Abroad program offers interdisciplinary study opportunities in the history and culture of medieval and Renaissance Britain. During the five-week program, students live in residence and attend lectures at St. Michael’s Hall. Courses are taught by faculty from CMRS Oxford, Arizona universities, and universities outside Arizona and include weekly excursions to cathedrals, museums, libraries, plays, or other relevant historical sites and cultural events around England.

As part of the coursework and the fun planned for the program, there will be four all-day excursions to various locations around England.

Setting Description:

CMRS is located in St. Michael’s Hall within 150 yards of Carfax, the ancient crossroads of the city and center of Oxford’s academic, cultural and social life. Excavations opposite the Hall in Shoe Lane support a 10th-century date for the layout of the streets and lanes adjacent to the building. St. Michael’s Hall, built in the years between 1869 and 1875, was acquired in 1978. It is a tall rectangular building in red brick with large arched windows. From an arcade, the entrance leads upstairs to four floors on which are located the various activities of CMRS.

Cost:

The program fee for Summer 2014 has not been determined yet, but the program fee for Summer 2012 was $5,100. This price included tuition, program fees, housing, opening/closing group dinners, and course excursions including local travel, entrance fees, and special event tickets. Not included: ASU fees, airfare, passport, books, additional meals, independent travel, and other personal expenses.
