Program Overview

Program Description:
Mason internship study abroad programs are destination-specific programs. Unlike traditional study abroad programs focusing on one particular subject, internship programs include students from different majors, working and studying in the same location. The student’s internship placement within a company relative to their area of study defines their global work experience, and determines the internship course credit the student will receive. For example, a Spain internship program can include (but is not limited to) students majoring in Government, Economics, Art, Criminology, Conflict Analysis & Resolution, Communications, and Psychology, and more. Madrid, Spain is a cosmopolitan city, well-known for its history, culture, and international atmosphere, attracting students from all around the world.

Mason Study Abroad partners with The Fundación José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón to place students in an unpaid two-month summer internship program. Students work five days per week, living with a Spanish family in a home stay arrangement. Students gain valuable global work experience and professional skills in various industry fields, while also earning Mason resident credit, and enjoying the culturally rich, historic city of Madrid, Spain. English-speaking internship placements are available; however, students with at least intermediate Spanish language skills will benefit by being able to integrate and immerse themselves in the Spanish-speaking environment, and improve their Spanish language skills. During the two-month internship program, The Fundación José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón offers student support services in-country, such as a welcome orientation, weekly group activities, 24/7 staff support, and more. Students may inquire about the type of internship opportunities in their area of study and about the complete support services offered during the program by emailing The Fundación José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón before enrolling in a Mason Study Abroad internship program.
