Program Overview

Program Description:
Learning About Shanghai & Beijing (Jul 8 – Aug 11, $5500) is a five-week, Mandarin immersion and people research program. Students will stay with host families in Shanghai and Beijing, study Mandarin in small groups, work on an interview-based research project with college/graduate student TAs focusing on a population group of their choice (e.g. teenagers, entrepreneurs, or internet hackers), and synthesize their findings in a 2000-word article. Students in Grade 9-12 are eligible to apply. Knowledge of Mandarin is not required. Partial financial aid is available to outstanding students based on needs. Application deadlines: Jan 31, 2011 (Early), March 31, 2011 (Regular).
