Program Overview

Program Description:
Mason internship study abroad programs are destination-specific programs. Unlike traditional study abroad programs focusing on one particular subject, internship programs include students from different majors, working and studying in the same location. The student’s internship placement within a company relative to their area of study defines their global work experience, and determines the internship course credit the student will receive. For example, a Hong Kong internship program can include (but is not limited to) students majoring in Government, Economics, Art, Criminology, Conflict Analysis & Resolution, Communications, and Psychology, and more. Hong Kong is home to thousands of multinational companies, and being located in a strategic access point for all of Asia, it is no wonder Hong Kong has a vibrant youth scene, is well-known for its history, politics, trade and finance, culture, and tradition. With English as its language of law and business, it is no wonder attracts internship students from all around the world.

Mason Study Abroad partners with The Academic Internship Council (AIC) to place students in an unpaid two-month summer internship program. Students work five days per week, living with in a student apartment.Students gain valuable global work experience and professional skills in various industry fields, while also earning Mason resident credit, and enjoying the culturally rich, historic Hong Kong. English-speaking internship placements are available; however, students with Chinese language skills will benefit by being able to integrate and immerse themselves in the Chinese-speaking environment, and improve their Chinese language skills. During the two-month internship program, AIC offers student support services in-country, such as a welcome orientation, group activities, 24/7 staff support, and more. Students may inquire about the type of internship opportunities in their area of study and about the complete support services offered during the program by emailing AIC before enrolling in a Mason Study Abroad internship program.
