The Hispanic Studies at UB summer program is designed for students who have already begun their Spanish studies but want to spend a summer immersed in the language and culture of Barcelona, Spain. Spend four weeks making the city of Barcelona your classroom, and let us take care of all the details! BridgeVirtual Language Lessons As part of your program fee, you will receive three free BridgeVirtual language sessions for your use prior to your arrival on-site! Each session lasts 2 hours and includes both pre- and post-class online activities, as well as private, face-to-face time with a certified native speaking teacher. With BridgeVirtual, you’ll learn from practical assignments that incorporate videos, blogs, news articles, and a large variety of material, appropriate for all levels and interests. You will be assigned your own teacher, who is dedicated to guiding and motivating you through a completely personalized, one-to-one program, which makes learning fun, practical and effective. And most importantly, you’ll have the language tools you need to be successful in your program abroad. Did you know that Barcelona: Has the most UNESCO world heritage sites of any city in the world? Academics Course Load: 1 course Credit Load: 6 credits Language of Instruction: Spanish Minimum Spanish Proficiency Required: One year of college-level Spanish courses (or equivalent) required to apply. Minimum GPA: 2.5/4.0 Transcript: Issued by UB. There are two course options for students participating in the Hispanic Studies Summer program: Intensive Spanish Language or Spanish Language and Culture. Courses Students who decide to participate in the Intensive Language Program will receive 60 hours of Spanish language instruction throughout four weeks of classes. Students who opt for the Language and Culture option will receive 60 hours of intensive Spanish language instruction plus 20 hours of a culture course. Spanish Language The UB is world-renowned for their Spanish language teaching and their exchange program. The professors lead many lessons in the city to make classes more fun and memorable. Setting Description:

The Host Institution Universidad de Barcelona (UB) The UB was founded in 1450. The present central building was inaugurated in 1871 and is located in the city centre. Today the university has four campuses, in different parts of the city. The university is particularly interested in fostering international relations, and for many years has been the leader among European universities in a number of student exchanges organized as part of the Erasmus program. UB offers an Estudios Hispanicos program taught in Spanish, adapted to the students’ proficiency levels, based on Spanish and Latin-American culture.
