Interested in transnational law, crime, and justice? See the courtroom where the Nuremberg trials took place, trace artwork looted by the Nazis in Vienna’s famous art museums, and visit memorials to the Soviet uprisings in Prague and Budapest. In addition to seeing museums and cultural performances, the itinerary will include a trip to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, which is headquartered in Vienna. Specific learning objectives include:
- Learn about the role that criminal trials play in defining and remembering major historical atrocities or mass crimes, such as the Holocaust
- Learn about transnational crime and international cooperation on the tracing of looted assets, using the example of looted Nazi artwork
- Learn about how the memory of resistance to Soviet domination of Eastern Europe is preserved in Prague and Budapest
