Program Description:
Great Books Summer Program is a residential literature program for middle and high school students hosted at Stanford University, Amherst College and University of Oxford. Students are guided by counselors from top colleges, as well as talented Arts instructors for a rich academic experience within a globally diverse community of literature-lovers.

Great Books Summer Program at University of Oxford combines the academic rigor and style of Great Books with valuable travel experience and cultural immersion. Highlights of the program:
• Tour the University, sightsee in Bath, Stonehenge, and London, and attend a special show by the Royal Shakespeare Company
• Explore British literature and Classics with distinguished American Professors and Oxford dons
• Meet guest speakers Jamie Byng, managing director of Canongate Books and Elizabeth Sheinkman, literary agent at William Morris Endeavor

Students are challenged to take up the great debates of classic literature, looking at timeless questions like: What is the good life? What must I do in the face of injustice? Our program teaches by asking questions using a dynamic method called Shared-Inquiry, to help students practice reflective reading and critical thinking, and recognize and develop their own best ideas. These gifts are taken back to the classroom, to help prepare for the SAT, college essays, and launch a future of intellectual pursuit and love of learning.
Setting Description:

Students will reside at Somerville dorms and attend most classes, meetings and meals on campus.
