Program Description:
A four-week summer program focusing on area studies, Contemporary Russia offers participants the opportunity to explore in depth the major domestic and international issues currently affecting Russia. Participants have access to a full-time U.S. resident director who provides ongoing logistical support.

Participants attend six hours of class per day, four days per week. The fifth day of each week is set aside for cultural excursions. In addition, program participants receive six hours per week of language instruction geared toward their proficiency levels (including elementary courses for students with no prior training in Russian). Participants also have access to peer tutors recruited from the Moscow International and Moscow State Universities.

For more than 35 years, American Councils has operated comprehensive language immersion programs in Russia for thousands of students and scholars. Participants greatly benefit from individual attention in our small classes and from interaction with host faculty who have extensive experience working with Americans. In addition to classroom learning, American Councils emphasizes cultural and language immersion outside of the academic program through cultural excursions, discussion groups, and extracurricular activities.
Setting Description:
Participants share dormitory housing with other program participants, living on-campus in metropolitan Moscow.
