Program Overview

Program Description:

Our philosophy at CEHS is to offer each and every program participant a complete, rewarding and unforgettable study abroad experience. Our programs incorporate all of those elements that contribute on site to meaningful study of Spanish language, literature, culture and other academic disciplines (homestays with wonderful families, exciting travel package, strong academics, internships, volunteering, free tutoring, language partners, modern facilities and a strong support structure.) All academic classes, three meals per day, homestays (one student per family), program travel package, and several additional items are all included in the advertised program price. There are no hidden costs. CEHS offers programs throughout the academic year: Fall and Spring Semester, J-Term, and two Summer Sessions. All classes are taught in Spanish by University faculty in their areas of expertise. All CEHS classes are offered for-credit, and follow a U.S. curriculum and grading system.

In our semester programs, students can choose among Spanish language, literature, culture, political science, history, art, photography, business and Communications classes. All classes are offered for credit. Students may also conduct an internship for credit, and enroll in a class at the University of Valladolid, Segovia campus. Students must sign a No-English language pledge to participate in the semester programs. CEHS summer sessions are 4 weeks in length, and offer classes in language, literature, history and art. Students with lower levels of language proficiency may take a lower-level Spanish language class, and combine it with an English language Civilization and Culture class. Students earn 6 credits in the summer sessions. Our J-term program offers a 3 credit Advanced Spanish class, and additional extra-curricular activities to reinforce Spanish language learning.

CEHS programs are complete, and of the highest quality. Please visit the Centro de Estudios Hispánicos de Segovia website to learn more about the elements that comprise our programs.

Setting Description:
Segovia, UNESCO designated World Heritage of Humanity city, is a beautiful, ancient city in the heart of Spain, and thanks to its rich history, breathtaking architecture, and undeniable charm, it is an ideal location for study abroad. As you roam the streets of Segovia, you move through Spanish history: the visible remnants of the past and Spain's diversity abound--the Roman Aqueduct, the fairy-tale like 12th-century Castle (El Alcázar), Spain's last Gothic Cathedral which presides over the Main Square, Mudéjar art (Islamic artistic influence under Christian rule), the Medieval Jewish Quarter, and much more. But Segovia, a city of 53,000, also has a lively cultural calendar, active nightlife, cinema, museums, shops, restaurants, and tranquil green areas...
