Program Overview

Program Description:

Our Granada study program allows you to focus on the Spanish language and learn more about Arabic culture and history in one of Spain’s most religiously, ethnically, and culturally diverse locations. The three program options include Spanish Language & Liberal Arts, Arabic Cultural Studies, and Intensive Spanish Language. Choose from liberal arts electives such as art history, economics, health sciences, history, and more. The Arabic Cultural Studies program gives you the chance to explore the Arabic language, Spain’s Islamic history and culture, and other fascinating topics in Arabic studies.

Our partner institution, The University of Granada, maintains a reputation as one of Spain’s most socially and culturally important centers of learning and thought. A favorite destination for European exchange students, UGR’s student body is approximately 13% international.

CEA’s complementary excursions and cultural activities will bring your studies to life: tour Granada’s famous 11th-century palace, the Alhambra; visit the Romani neighborhood of Sacromonte, tucked into the city’s white caves, and watch flamenco dancers perform to live music; take a field trip to northern Morocco and soak up the color and richness of contemporary Arabic communities. There is so much to learn outside of the classroom in Granada.

CEA makes sure your housing, health, safety, social engagement, and other needs are taken care of. Giving you the best possible study abroad experience is our top priority.

Setting Description:
Granada possesses a long legacy of multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and interfaith community, giving students a richly diverse setting for their education abroad. Centuries of Moorish rule shine through the city’s distinctive architecture, tea rooms, and cuisine, blended with Christian, Jewish, Romani, and classically Spanish influences. Nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the south of Spain, Granada gives you easy access to the Mediterranean coast and nearby Morocco. Full of charming courtyards, beautiful gardens, and vibrant mosaics, it’s no wonder people often call Granada a fairy-tale city.
