Program Description:
This Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) summer program allows you the chance to spend six weeks soaking up the culture, language, and everything else that Spain has to offer! Choose from courses in the humanities and business and earn credits while exploring Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain. BridgeVirtual Language Lessons As part of your program fee, you will receive three free BridgeVirtual language sessions for your use prior to your arrival on-site! Each session lasts 2 hours and includes both pre- and post-class online activities, as well as private, face-to-face time with a certified native speaking teacher. With BridgeVirtual, you’ll learn from practical assignments that incorporate videos, blogs, news articles, and a large variety of material, appropriate for all levels and interests. You will be assigned your own teacher, who is dedicated to guiding and motivating you through a completely personalized, one-to-one program, which makes learning fun, practical and effective. For the Summer program at the UAB, students have the following academic options: Option A (6 credits): 1 Spanish class (90 hours, 6 credits) and 1 Elective (3 credits ) Option B (6 credits): 2 Electives (6 credits ) (No Spanish class) Possible Courses Include: Humanities Courses Spanish Civilization and Culture This course starts with an extensive view of the Spanish history as a way of giving students a general frame where they could place the following subjects that will be taken into account. After that it will examine the different cultures within Spain: Castilian, Catalan, Basque and Galician; focusing mainly on language, nationality, and political implications. The rest of the course will travel throughout the various aspects of the Spanish Civilization, understanding civilization as lifestyle and society (family, immigration, youth, economic crisis, politics…), and also the various artistic ways of expression (painting, architecture, literature, music and cinema). By using concepts from these various subjects, students will study how Spain changed from being a polarized country to an allegedly reference in the West. International Business Courses International Marketing Strategies Marketing products and services around the world, transcending national and political boundaries, is a fascinating phenomenon. This course focuses on marketing strategy and management within the context of the international markets. It introduces the complex and constantly evolving realities of international marketing. It evaluates cultural differences and aims to enhance student skills in developing and implementing marketing strategies and decision making in the international contexts. It starts with an overview of the environments faced in international markets (i.e., cultures, economic systems, financial markets, governments and legal systems, etc.) and then addresses in some depth the elements of global marketing strategy (product, price, distribution, promotion, etc.) and its implementation.
