Program Overview

Program Description:
Immerse in French language and culture for a semester in Provence and make record progress in French through multi-faceted full French language immersion: individual homestay, community service, club memberships and language exchange partners. Coursework on a large range of subjects is taught by French university faculty, and students participate in regional excursions in Provence, visiting vineyards, Provençal villages and historical French cities such as Avignon and Arles.

This advanced-level French immersion program draws on the exceptional resources of Marseille for a better understanding of Franco-North African Relations, Islam and the Middle East. An all French-language environment and on-going training in cross-cultural mediation is combined with profound cultural and linguistic integration, and includes one week of on-site study in Fez, Morocco. Make record progress in both French, Arabic, & intercultural communication, while living with & like the French.

Highlights include the individual home-stay, an all French-language environment + Arabic study, on-going training in cross-cultural communication, weekly community service, club or activity, French peer language exchange and one week of immersion in Morocco. Participants obtain two internationally recognized certificates of achievement: TEF (Test d'Evaluation de Français) certification & IDI (International Development Inventory) upon successful completion of the program.
Setting Description:
Set on the Mediterranean Sea and statistically safer than any major American city, Marseille is France's second city, new to study abroad and unspoiled by globalization. The city is a crossroads: ancient ruins & modern architecture, French & North African cultures, urban landscapes & stunning natural landscapes. With its cultural and religious pluralism, Marseille inspires true international education in reaching across cultures for greater knowledge and understanding.
Cost:
See the AUCP website for detailed program costs per semester. Program costs include tuition, housing in carefully selected French families on a demi-pension basis (seven breakfasts and five dinners a week plus Sunday lunches) in Marseille and in Fez, Morocco, comprehensive health & personal liability insurance, books and field trips. Airfare (except for the Marseille-Fez round trip) and local daily transport are not included.
