Program Overview

Program Description:
"The Eternal City,” Rome, is a treasure of art, culture and history – a place where the foundations of Western Civilization were built. Against this rich backdrop, Assumption College has created a unique study abroad program that enriches our students’ academic and cultural pursuits and takes advantage of all that Rome has to offer.

A variety of liberal arts and pre-professional courses are offered each semester. Course offerings may include History, Art History, Theology, Philosophy, Comparative Literature, Italian, and Accounting among others. Most courses count towards general education requirements, so students can maintain progress toward their degree while getting the most advantage from study in Rome. Students of affiliated institutions travel to Rome knowing that they will receive full credit for all courses taken at the Rome campus.

The curriculum offers five or more strong liberal-arts courses each semester, allowing students to fulfill general education requirements. Located in the heart of the city, the campus's placement and easy access to transportation allows Rome itself to become a “living classroom” through visits to culturally and historically significant locations. A modern, fully-equipped facility houses both classrooms and living accommodations, enables family-style meals and fostering a warm, collegial environment. Unlike other study abroad programs, travel opportunities to other cities and sites are included in tuition. Excursions are an important part of the Assumption Rome program affording students additional opportunities of exploration and discovery. Students may pursue other travel opportunities on their own. Program size is limited to 25 students per semester. Home stays are also possible.
Setting Description:
Completely remodeled in 2013, Villino Dufault is located within a traditional, safe residential neighborhood in the heart of Rome. Students enjoy living in a communal atmosphere that also provides privacy. Shared living, dining and classroom spaces as well as complete laundry and computer facilities with WiFi, offer students elegance, comfort and convenience. The residential neighborhood offers authentic shopping and dining possibilities, as well as nearby jogging and gym facilities. In addition to its sleek modern styling, Villino Dufault is a “green” campus.
Cost:
Cost to attend a semester at Assumption's Rome campus is similar to the tuition at the Worcester campus.
