Program Description:

Develop your knowledge of British architecture and urban design.

This three-week course, gives you an insight to the fundamental principles of British architectural design, mixing theory and practical work in the creative processes of ‘thinking and making’. To develop your appreciation of British design and cultural identity, you will contrast ancient and modern architecture styles through a series of lectures, group projects and practical tasks. The course also includes a series of study day trips to sites of architectural importance around the South of England, including Stone Henge and the City of London. You will be encouraged to use digital techniques in your work, along with drawing and illustrative methods as you work up ideas on building concepts, spatial awareness and form. Using your drawings and digital software, you will also produce a 3D model from your design. During the final week you will work in groups on a practical urban planning and architecture project that tests?your ability to solve problems as well as your technical and aesthetic knowledge.
