Program Overview

Program Description:

Spend 3 weeks exploring the state of Western Australia this summer with the AIFS Storytelling in Australia program! This course is worth 4-semester credits and is taught in English by faculty from Murdoch University’s School of Arts.

Live on campus in double rooms in a student residence in Perth. While traveling, you will stay in tents at campsites and farm stays. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included while traveling.

You will stay in Perth for 7 nights, travel throughout Northwest Australia for 10 nights, and then return to Perth for the last 4 nights. 

Cultural and academic excursions include: 

  • Tours of Perth and Fremantle
  • Trip to Murchison River Gorge and Kalbarri National Park
  • Trip to the Hamelin Pool stromatolites
  • Snorkeling in Coral Bay
  • Visit to Meekatharra and Cue to view Aboriginal rock paintings.

An optional 3-night visit to Sydney including a sightseeing tour and a Blue Mountains day trip is available to students on the AIFS flight package.

Setting Description:
Spend 3 weeks in the state of Western Australia beginning and ending in Perth with a 10-day field trip in between. This is an opportunity for creative and adventurous students to experience the authentic Australia and indigenous culture including camping under the stars, swimming in gorges, visiting Outback towns and sheep stations, discovering Aboriginal cave paintings and enjoying beautiful beaches and reefs.
Cost:
AIFS is a premier provider of study abroad programs. Program fees cover tuition and housing, and over 50% of our study abroad participants receive financial support from AIFS in the form of scholarships or grants. A meal plan, tours and excursions, insurance, and 24-hour emergency service are also included. Coordinated AIFS Flight Packages with major airlines are also available.

Requirements:
Open to college sophomores, juniors and seniors. Minimum 2.5 GPA required (lower GPAs will be considered on a case by case basis). Must be 18 years or older to apply.
